Even nowadays, when divorce rates are relatively high, there are plenty of happy marriages to be found. However, in the world of vintage watch collecting, the phrase carries far different connotations. In fact, amongst vintage collectors, the word “marriage” is heavily loaded, and in a distinctly negative manner.
For more than 40 years now, pocket watches have been getting scraped for their gold or silver cases, leaving the movement without a home or purpose. Surprisingly, some of these movements are of extremely high grade and would cost thousands of dollars to manufacture them today. Why then not to just give a historic piece of artwork a new enhanced life?
This week we have another very popular key wind & key set type of watch. The specialty of the watch is that you need to use a given key to set the time and to wind up your watch. This unique and rear to find movement is dated from the 1870s. It has its original enamel dial and hands. The watch keeps good time. The accuracy may vary +/- 5 mins a day, which is considered a norm for a caliber of this age.
Each movement we use to create our watches gets completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled, and calibrated by our qualified team of watchmakers.
