In this article we would like to answer the most popular questions we receive from our clients about our cases:
- How do we make our cases?
- Where do we get the designs from?
- Can we make a custom case for your movement?
As you might have heard, most of the pocket watches produced at the end of XIX beginning of the XX centuries originally had their cases made of precious metals. Then, during the war, many antique pocket watch movements had become orphaned from their original cases. As the result, these movements remained uncased, and we found vigor in restoring and preserving the beautiful pieces in a functional way.
By reverse-engineering antique parts, we were able to create a wristwatch case that housed the pocket watch movements in the same way as the original pocket watch case. To make these historical quality time machines wearable again, we create a modern wristwatch case individually for each movement.
What kind of watch cases do we make?
We produce two different types of cases that gently hold the movements: cast cases and chiseled cases. We also have some ready-to-wear stainless steel cases. The stainless steel cases usually have the bezel redesigned to make them look unique.
Most of our cases are made with the exhibition back cover. It allows the owner to watch the beautiful movement in work.
How are the chiseled and cast cases are made?
First of all, our artist develops the design concept of a case with the future dial design kept in mind. Once the drawing is converted into electronic format by the designer, our engineer makes exact measurements of the movement to start manufacturing the case.
When the metalworking is done, the lugs are then prepared and attached. The next step is the engraving of the case if part of the design.
Lastly, once the case is prepared, it is then polished and plated with gold.
The cast cases are produced by forcing molten metal under high pressure into a mold cavity, that was earlier created according to our design.
Then, the cast case is polished and plated.
Can we make a case for your movement?
As we have mentioned above, we create a case for each movement individually. To produce the case which will perfectly fit the movement without physically having the movement is almost impossible.
However, you can always contact us directly here with details, and we will see what we can do for you :-)
